The
objective of the Bonn Agreement Oil Appearance Code Photo Atlas is to assist in
the training of air crews involved in surveillance flights as an aid to
detecting and combating pollution at sea. The Photo Atlas supports the
application of the Bonn Agreement Oil Appearance Code and the Bonn Agreement
Aerial Operations Handbook. It is based on the long-standing experience of Bonn
Agreement flight-crews and most pictures were taken directly in action.
The Photo Atlas comprises an array of exemplary photos of aerial observations of different types of oil slicks from accidental or illegal discharges from ships or oil rigs, including SLAR and IR/UV images, together with explanatory texts. To complete the atlas images taken in different weather and light conditions or depicting other substances and natural phenomena such as algal blooms were also included.
