Super CEPCO 2021

July 4th 2022

Norway organised a SuperCEPCO (Co-ordinated Extended Pollution Control Operations) to monitor vessel traffic in the Skagerrak area, and to check compliance to MARPOL and/or ational regulations on discharges or disposal from vessels

The base for the operation was Oslo Airport Gardermoen, Norway. Six Contracting Parties (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Belgium, and Ireland) participated in the campaign.

In total, 15 out of 16 planned missions were executed during week 38 of 2021, while one mission was cancelled due to technical issues. The campaign logged a total flight time of 33:48 hours over sea.

Four observations, most likely were related to shipping activities, were recorded. There were two observations in Danish waters, one in Swedish waters, and one in Norwegian waters. Two of the observations were of unknown substance, one observation probably veg/fish oil (no colors), and one observation most likely mineral oil.

EMSA satellite support was also received and all images were used in the operation.

The campaign was a success in terms of performance and professionalism from all participants. All data was reported to the SuperCEPCO office and from there forwarded to the national competent authorities. The hosting of the SuperCEPCO was also a success due to close involvement from Sweden and Denmark in all phases and support from the Norwegian surveillance contractor Sundt Air, with supporting personnel and facilities at the GA terminal at Oslo Airport Gardermoen.
