Chair of the Bonn Agreement 2025 - 2027

Eric Donnay, Belgium

As retiring head of the marine pollution response team in the Belgium Directorate General for the Environment of the Federal Public Service Health, and Belgian Head of Delegation to the Bonn Agreement for many years, I am honoured to take over the Chair of the Bonn Agreement. I am fully committed to ensure that the Bonn Agreement continues playing a leading role in marine pollution prevention, preparedness and response and meets future challenges through regional cooperation. I am confident that my experience and spirit of consensus will enhance the Bonn Agreement discussions during the 2025-2026 period.

During my chairmanship, I will support the launching of the new Bonn Agreement Strategy with the vision of a clean and healthy marine and coastal environment in the Bonn Agreement Area protected from accidental and illegal marine pollution from ships and other maritime activities as well as from air emissions from ships. With the involvement of the concerned decision-makers, observers and other stakeholders we will join efforts to achieve our new strategic and operational objectives including the regional priorities identified such as pollution from air emissions, hazardous and noxious substances, plastic pellets and new/alternative fuels.
