MARPOCS

The MARPOCS project, active between 2016 - 2017 in an Atlantic sub-region, works towards an integrated framework for preparedness and response to oil and HNS spills.

The MARPOCS project (2016-2017), also co-funded by EU Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (DG ECHO), aims to develop and implement an integrated operational framework for preparedness and response to oil and HNS spills in an Atlantic sub-region of Morocco, Madeira and the Canary Islands, which is part of the marine region covered by the Lisbon Agreement. Although the geographic scope of MARPOCS falls well outside the Bonn Agreement region, the MARPOCs project partnership involves research organisations of 4 countries (Portugal, Spain, France and Morocco) of which one (France) is also a Contracting Party to the Bonn Agreement. One of the main expected MARPOCS outcomes, besides training session, courses, and exercises, is a model-based decision-support system supported by the existing 3D oil & HNS spill modelling system MOHID.
